When making investment decisions, Catholic Super and its advisers take into account the expected return and performance of investments suitable for each investment option. Social, ethical, environmental or labour standards of companies within the investment portfolio may be considered as explained below.
Regnan - Governance Research Engagement Pty Ltd (previously BT Financial Group’s Governance Advisory Service) acts on Catholic Super’s behalf to research social, environmental and corporate governance risks and engage with ASX200 companies to encourage effective management of those risks.
By actively engaging with companies, Catholic Super seeks to minimise exposure to future governance risks and therefore maximise potential share value.
Catholic Super also has a policy of voting at all listed company annual general meetings in which it has a shareholding. In order to assist Catholic Super in determining how to vote at these meetings, the Fund is a member of the Australian Council of Superannuation Investors (ACSI), a not-for-profit organisation that provides independent research on corporate governance issues in listed companies.
Catholic Super adopts the following categories with underlying guiding principles when determining how to vote on each resolution:
- Composition of Board
- Board Committees
- Auditor Independence
- Executive and Non-executive directors’ remuneration
- Related Party Transactions
- Voting Rights
